DicE

DicESCULTURA was born in Vienna in 2002 under the premise that the development of society can and should be based on Culture in the broadest sense of the word, being its primary objective the dissemination of Spanish Culture outside our borders. Given the cultural and linguistic proximity and shared history with South America, DicE also has directed its attention to Latin American countries.

Although it is open to all artistic disciplines, its main activity has focused since its origins in the musical field, pursuing the objective of disseminating the Spanish musical and dance heritage of all times in its various genres and styles -classic, flamenco , jazz and all the surprising fusions-, to offer the international public some interesting and innovative proposals from the best performers, both emerging and established, and not necessarily national.

This idea comes from the initiative of two Spanish musicologists, Candelaria Rodríguez- Afonso and Gracia Terrén Lalana. It began its journey with the creation in 2002 of the Spanish Music Festival “España: sol y más” (“ Spanien : Sonne und mehr ”), with which it wanted to present an image of our identity that would go beyond the best known benefits of our land - sun, sea, party, siesta ...

Its varied and multi-stylistic programming has presented the vibrant proposals of artists such as Esperanza Fernández, Cañizares, Gerardo Núñez and Chano Domínguez,and also reference composers such as Manuel de Falla, Isaac Albéniz, Joaquín Turina , Antonio de Cabezón , Martín y Soler, Jesús Guridi or Cristóbal Halffter, to name just a few, as well as programs dedicated to Spanish guitar, zarzuela, organ, Sephardic romances, and unpublished repertoire.

During the period 2005-2008 DicESCULTURA collaborated with the Spanish Music Festival organized by the Embassy of Spain in Vienna, retaking its leadership in 2009.

DicE has promoted and participated in multiple initiatives in countries such as Germany, Austria, Russia, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Switzerland, always seeking to establish solid relationships with the institutions and entities with which it interacts, whether national (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry de Cultura, Instituto Cervantes, SGAE, Andalusian Flamenco Agency, Biennial of Seville) or international (regular collaborations with festivals and various cultural agents such as Konzerthaus in Vienna, Flamenco Festival Toulouse, Iberian Festival, Jazz de Brno (Czech Rep.), Jazz Plus (Bulgaria), among others).
Academic activities include master classes in Spanish repertoire for guitar, piano or singing.

OUR VISION : To consolidate in Vienna and surrounding regions a stable and sustainable platform for the projection of our Culture.
